LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Fire crews were busy in the summer heat Monday, July 29, with one fire response being interrupted when officials spotted a second fire nearby. Originally, firefighters were called to 26th and E Avenue a little after 11 a.m., on reports of a grassfire. Shortly after they arrived and started containing the blaze, crews spotted signs of a house fire not far from where they were. The fires were quickly contained and are believed to be electrical fires. Copyright 2024 KSWO.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Officials with the group “Women That Vote” honored their founder, unveiling a statue dedicated to the tireless work and passion of Barbara Curry who passed away in 2022. Barbara was a part of many local organizations such as Lawton Business Women, the Lawton Fort Sill Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Lawton-Fort Sill, the Red Cross, and the Women that Vote Arts Corporation, which she created.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Okla. (KSWO) - A sudden downburst in Kiowa County left behind widespread damage in Mountain View around 8:30 p.m., July 16. As far as the damage goes, 7News spoke with Jeremy Hooper, Mountain View’s mayor, who says a warehouse barn is completely destroyed, a house is without part of its roof, several campers were tipped over and multiple small buildings were hit or picked up by the storm. One of the small buildings was thrown into a gas meter.

COMANCHE CO., Okla. (KSWO) - Emergency crews were called to East Gore and Trail Road Thursday, July 4, after a truck rolled over multiple times, trapping the driver inside. First responders were called shortly before 2 p.m. to the scene. Officials say a driver ran a stop sign, clipping a truck heading north on Trail Road. The truck left the roadway and rolled, landing upside down and trapping the driver. Thankfully, the driver was able to get out, and did not need treatment for their injuries.

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) - Fort Sill kicked off a nearly weeklong competition to find out who is the “Best Redleg.”Opening ceremonies were held May 9, for the inaugural Best Redleg Competition. The six-day event will see the Post’s best cannon crewmembers go head to head on fast and accurate firings.
