LEWISBURG — Local leaders on Monday expressed their thoughts on losing Lewisburg business owner Elizabeth Furia over the weekend following a long battle with cancer. Furia, 62, owner of Elizabeth's An American Bistro at 412 Market St., succumbed to cancer on May 10 at WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital in Lewisburg. LEWISBURG — Ten-year-old Anna Langdon heard about a problem and didn't wait for someone else to tell her how to help. The fourth grade student at Linntown Intermediate School in the Lewisburg Area School District learned about plastic waste being dumped in the ocean, so she looked up a nonprofit environmental engineering organization, organized a fundraiser at the Lewisburg Arts Festival and convinced six of her friends to help.

MIFFLINBURG — The Friends of R.B. Winter State Park will host a clean-up and volunteer work day off Route 192 on May 17. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Environmental Learning Center at 9 a.m. to divide into groups. The 695-acre park is located on the western edge of Union County within the Bald Eagle State Forest along Route 192 just 18 miles west of Lewisburg. The primary focus is on picking up trash along Route 192 between McCall Dam Road and Stover Gap Road.
