MCCOOK LAKE, S.D. (KELO) — Volunteers are recovering flood-swept debris from McCook Lake and its shoreline—everything from personal belongings to rooftops. “It ended up in this lake due to the flood,” volunteer Steve Bradley said. “It takes a lot of hands and a lot of back breaking work to get it cleaned up.” Bradley doesn’t live on the lake, but he said the situation is still just as heartbreaking. “This is where we spend our summers. Our family has pretty much grown up out here,” Bradley said.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — 57-year-old Peggy VanDeKieft is serving a five year prison sentence in Pierre. VanDeKieft, trusted as the treasurer of a Canton, South Dakota’s township for almost 20 years, wrote out more than a half million dollars in fraudulent checks. In addition to time behind bars, she’s also supposed to pay $511,004.04 in restitution. Township members tell KELOLAND News they’ve yet to see any effort of her repaying those funds. That’s why they’ve filed a federal lawsuit.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The manager of a Sioux Falls Dollar General store is urging her customers to check their bank records, after she says they found a card skimmer inside the store on Sunday. According to a Facebook post, they don’t know how long the device has been there.
