MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) - The Madison Edgewood boys hockey season was unforgettable as they made history by winning their first-ever state championship. But, for senior Dylan Lenz, that triumph came just one week after an unthinkable personal tragedy. The day before Edgewood's state-qualifying game, Dylan learned his oldest brother, Drew, had tragically died in a snowboarding accident at 22 years old. "The beginning was very hard," Dylan Lenz said.

Nearly 2,000 players are vying to qualify for this year's championship, but only 156 will make the cut. DeForest's Abigial Henrikson is among those hoping to earn a spot. She is set to compete in her qualifier Monday, the second-to-last day to qualify. "I have been watching a lot of scores from all over the country," Henrikson said.

MADISON (WKOW) -- It's on to the Big Ten Tournament for the Wisconsin softball team. The Badgers just wrapped up the regular season 33-20 overall and 11-11 in Big Ten play. Wisconsin locked in the nine seed and will face eighth-seeded Michigan in the opening round on Wednesday. The Badgers haven't beaten the Wolverines since 2017 and dropped the series earlier this season. But, that hasn't shaken their confidence heading into the tournament. "I think the team is hungry," Head Coach Yvette Healy said.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (WKOW) -- Wisconsin defeated Ohio State 4-3 in overtime to win the program's 8th national championship. Wisconsin and Ohio State met for the third straight year in the national championship game at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Kirsten Simms scored the game-winning goal in overtime as well as the goal to send it to overtime for the Badgers. The Buckeyes got on the board first as Joy Dunne scored a short-handed goal 8 minutes and 22 seconds into the game.

By Karley Marotta (WKOW)-- Wisconsin has earned a No. 3 seed in the East Region and will face No. 14 Montana in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday in Denver, Colorado. A win would send the Badgers to the second round on Saturday. The winner of the first-round matchup will face wither No. 6 BYU or No. 11 VCU. Wisconsin finished the regular season 26-9 overall and 13-7 in Big Ten play. The Badgers fell just short of a Big Ten tournament title.
