PETOSKEY — Smoke and heat broke out in downtown Petoskey late on Sunday, May 4. According to a press release from Petoskey Public Safety Director Adrian Karr, officers were dispatched around 9:45 p.m. on Sunday to 407 Michigan St. — home of Willoway Spa and Wellness — to investigate a fire alarm sound and the smell of smoke. When officers arrived, they found smoke-stained windows that appeared to be hot to the touch.

CHARLEVOIX — When getting ready for school on Friday morning, students and teachers at school districts throughout the region donned Charlevoix's maroon and white in honor of Rayder Strong Day. Charlevoix Public Schools and the Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District called upon schools, residents, businesses and others across Northern Michigan to celebrate "Rayder Strong Day" on Friday, May 2 to show support for the Charlevoix High School varsity boys golf team.

PETOSKEY — A little more than a year after McLean & Eakin first started offering used books at their downtown Petoskey store, they're ready to expand. Just down Lake Street, a second storefront will become home to "The Archives." The space will be entirely devoted to used books. McLean & Eakin Booksellers will soon open a used book store, The Archives, on Lake Street in downtown Petoskey. According to general manager Zach Matelski, the used bookstore will serve as a way to give books a second life.

CHARLEVOIX — On May 6, the Charlevoix community will take to the polls to vote on a millage request from Charlevoix Public Schools. The May ballot includes an $8 million bond proposal that would allow the district the chance to do construction on larger-scale projects, including updating building security and operational technology, updating classroom technology and offering infrastructure updates. It may also be used to purchase new buses.
