NORTHERN MICHIGAN — Almost three weeks after a historic ice storm brought destruction to Northern Michigan, legislators are working on a proposal to bring $300 million in relief to the region. State Rep. Parker Fairbairn of the 107th district proposed House Bill 4328 on April 16. The proposed bill is a $75 million state budget plan, working in tandem with "any future federal disaster declaration for Northern Michigan," according to a release from Fairbairn's office.

NORTHERN MICHIGAN — When most schools in the region reopened their doors on Monday, April 7, it had been more than two weeks since any instruction took place in a classroom. The scheduled Char-Em spring break period was capped off by a historic ice storm, resulting in an extra week of canceled classes for most schools in the area. Petoskey and Harbor Springs were no different.

BOYNE FALLS — Temperatures are starting to rise in Northern Michigan, but that doesn't mean ski season has to end. Kari Roder, director of marketing for Boyne Mountain Resort, said the current plan is to stay open for skiing into May this year, with trails only open on weekends. During the week, the resort continues making snow for the trails. There is also maintenance from groomers, making sure there's a consistent base and quality of snow on top, Roder said.
