Charlevoix Courier

The Charlevoix Courier is a weekly newspaper serving the community of Charlevoix, Michigan, and has been in operation since 1883. In 2006, it was acquired by Schurz Communications, which is based in South Bend, Indiana, along with its sister papers, the Petoskey News-Review and the Gaylord Herald Times. The Courier releases its editions every Wednesday.

Things are staying the same atop the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association rankings this week, though some are beginning to make their climb. Saline (Division 1), Hudsonville Unity Christian (D2), Grand Rapids Catholic Central (D3) and Royal Oak Shrine Catholic (D4) all remained at the top of their respective division, but there was movement throughout each poll.

Hills coached the Ramblers for 16 years across two stints, compiling a 125-45 record and leading them to two state semifinal appearances. The slow starts to the season have been well documented. But the Petoskey girls tennis team is trying to make the most of it, even as the wind, temperatures and wet conditions have kept them away. Late last week brought a new opporuntity to get outside and get Big North Conference duals started, as they met up with Traverse City West and took a 5-3 loss, though plenty of heats delivered blows to the Titans’ armour.

PETOSKEY — The Petoskey baseball team were kings of the walk-off last season. It’s a good time when wins can be had in dramatic fashion at home, but it’s also a nerve-racking way to go about stacking wins. This Northmen group seems to thrive on it, however, showing so with a walk-off victory in the second game of the home opener against Elk Rapids Thursday. Petoskey earned wins of 10-5 and 3-2, pulling off the nightcap on an eighth inning walk-off error that scored senior Brendan Swiss.
