SLATON, Texas (KCBD) - At the Slaton Model Railroad Studio, visitors can go back in time. The model trains, buildings and other structures show visitors a time when Slaton was at the height of railroad life. The miniature Santa Fe rail line stretches from Slaton all the way to the New Mexico state line, taking the train through each town along the way. Dr. Robert Mamlok, the Texas Tech Model Railroad Club and many other train enthusiasts put it all together over the past several years.

SLATON, Texas (KCBD) - The Slaton Harvey House is offering guests a chance to learn about the railroad’s significant impact on Slaton, including the unique role of the Harvey House, and a chance to stay the night. “This place, it’s just amazing,” Cynthia Jones, Harvey House office manger, said. “I’m hoping more people will realize what we have here.”It was in 1989 when demolition crews arrived to tear down the Harvey House, but citizens of Slaton stood in the way.

LEVELLAND, Texas (KCBD) - Carye Gruben and her daughter Kaelyn Blayne are carrying on the legacy of Silverado Apparel & Home and preserving its western style in downtown Levelland. The pair who graduated from Texas Tech University with fashion design degrees purchased the Silverado from its original owner in Albuquerque, New Mexico. “She’d seen the style that we wear and she was like this is a perfect fit,” Gruben said. “Three weeks later we drove to Albuquerque.

LEVELLAND, Texas (KCBD) - Fostering Life Youth Ranch has transformed a residential treatment facility for foster children in Levelland over the past four years, meeting the needs of more children. Now, it has plans to add space for more children who don’t have anywhere else to turn. “The goal is to teach them how to handle the traumas in their life so they can be productive citizens when they become adults,” Brooke Foster said. Brook and her husband Micah purchased the Levelland facility in 2020.

Bobby Gilliland is embarking on this 13th term as the mayor and 34th year as the owner of Script Printing and Office Supplies. “It’s not only the desire to help my community and serve my community, but just to kind of see what we could reach and attain in maybe benefiting our community,” Gilliland said about his time in office.
