The Lubbock Fire Marshal's Office has identified the cause of a fire in a South Lubbock home that left one person and three dogs dead. According to Lubbock Fire Rescue, around 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, LFR was dispatched to a residential structure fire near the 1600 Block of 70th Street, with initial 911 reports indicating that an elderly adult was still inside the home.

Lubbock City Council unanimously denied a variance request from Endzone Liquor Beer Wine to sell alcohol near Lubbock High School. The request was denied due to a city ordinance prohibiting alcohol sales within 300 feet of schools. While some council members argued against the influence of alcohol sales on students, the council ultimately prioritized protecting the school environment. This is the second time Endzone has requested this variance, with the previous request also being denied.

The City of Lubbock is advising the public of a full-scale exercise it is conducting, with individuals expected to see increased law enforcement in certain areas next week. On Tuesday, June 3, 2025 the city, in partnership with Lubbock ISD, will hold a full-scale exercise at Atkins Middle School. Only authorized personnel will be there for the exercise and the school has been let out for the summer.

Hundreds of Lubbockites gathered in the southern portion of the city to not only open up a new fire station but also a monument to a lasting legacy. On Tuesday, the City of Lubbock and Lubbock Fire Rescue opened its newest state-of-the-art fire station, Fire Station 20 at 3210 142nd St. This new station will serve as more than a new home base for firefighters, but also as a testament to the legacy of a firefighter who was killed in the line of duty on Jan 11, 2020.
