The City of Canning has pioneered a new technique for tackling the polyphagous shot-hole borer, which appears to save the trees. Infected trees were injected with a small amount of fungicide and insecticide four months ago and are showing positive early results. The city wants government endorsement and funding to conduct further trials and hopes the treatment means fewer trees will have to be cut down.

Members of Perth's arts community are asking why beloved local sculptures have been placed in storage indefinitely while City of Perth spends money installing a new piece from a US artist. An arts consultant has launched a public campaign calling on the city to bring back the sculpture Ore Obelisk that sat in Stirling Gardens from 1971 to 2021.

Revellers and Northbridge locals may have noticed a feature of the James and Lake Street roundabout has gone missing. The sculpture called Arch was installed to mark the opening of the Northbridge Piazza precinct in 2009, and was commissioned by the City of Perth at a cost of $99,000. But in late 2023, the public art piece was removed for repairs by the City of Perth and has not been reinstalled.
