The University of Chicago has suspended and evicted an Arab student who was arrested at a pro-Palestinian campus demonstration earlier this month, according to an attorney representing the student. The student, who asked to remain anonymous due to safety concerns, does not have family in the state and has nowhere else to live, according to his attorney. University officials said they cannot comment on individual student disciplinary cases.

Three weeks after the entire Chicago Board of Education resigned, Mayor Brandon Johnson’s new board will meet for the first time Thursday and will include a seventh member whose appointment hadn’t yet been announced. The school board’s meetings were delayed one week as the mayor’s new appointees went through an onboarding process.

As Chicago gears up for its first school board election, three women are vying to represent the largely Latino Southwest Side’s District 7 in a race where outside groups are spending to try to influence the outcome.
