MISSISSIPPI COUNTY , Mo. (KFVS) - Eight years after the Missouri Attorney General’s Office removed Cory Hutcheson from serving as Sheriff of Mississippi County, it’s leading a new criminal prosecution against him. The 41-year-old Hutcheson now faces multiple felony charges amid allegations he had sex with an underage girl more than a decade ago. Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s office filed the case against Hutcheson on Wednesday.

BUTLER COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - On a warm night in June 1975, 18-year-old Geneva Phelps Hastings went to an outdoor party in Butler County and never made it home. Her family has waited 50 years to find out who killed Geneva, and why. Before I update you on her case, I want to share some heartbreaking news for the Phelps family. Geneva’s mom, Shirley Phelps, passed away on Mother’s Day evening, just a few weeks shy of her 89th birthday.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the circumstances surrounding the pursuit of a motorcycle in Cape Girardeau on March 13, 2025 that resulted in the death of the motorcyclist. That’s according to Sgt. Clark Parrott, who says they are investigating any violations of law in connection with the pursuit.

NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - The police chief and assistant chief in Portageville, Missouri have turned in their badges--effective immediately. According to New Madrid County Sheriff Joey Higgerson, the two resigned just a short time ago at the Portageville City Council meeting Monday evening. Sheriff Higgerson told council members and residents at that meeting his department will do everything it can to help while the community works through the process of replacing its two top cops.
