NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — The beach, boardwalk, and shops in Asbury Park were packed Thursday, as people eagerly ushered in summer weather after days of grey skies and rain. “I work at Irvington High [School] and our last day was yesterday, so I’m at the beach enjoying it,” said Cindy Howard of Newark. “I got my annual season beach pass a couple of weeks ago and couldn’t use it for the longest time,” said John Lanza of Middletown.

NEW YORK (PIX11) — The African Burial Ground National Monument in Lower Manhattan is closed indefinitely, including on Juneteenth, according to the National Parks Service. The National Parks Service website said the outdoor memorial has been closed since June 12th and will be “closed until further notice to ensure the protection of the monument resources and the safety of our visitors.”Its outdoor Juneteenth event will be relocated indoors, to the site’s visitors center on Broadway.

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) — As the situation in Israel intensifies, airlines have cancelled all flights in and out of Tel Aviv, leaving many tourists and visitors stranded. United Airlines has cancelled all service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Tel Aviv through July 31st. Delta expects flights to be impacted through August 31st. Israel’s airspace remains closed to all commercial air traffic, as attacks between Israel and Iran continue.

NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) — The search continues for four detainees who escaped from Delaney Hall in Newark Thursday night during a riot that broke out because of insufficient food. On Friday, Senator Andy Kim and Congressman Rob Menendez toured the facility and met with top ICE officials. Kim said officials alluded to the idea that they will move all detainees out of Delaney Hall within the next 24 hours.
