GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Max Polakovich may not be the first person to run the entire lower peninsula of Michigan from south to north. But he may be the fastest. Polakovich, who’s only been a hobby runner for the last year, challenged himself to run 400 miles last month, starting in northern Indiana and ending at the Mackinac Island bridge.

MUSKEGON, MI - An 85-year-old bridge in a Muskegon neighborhood is being removed and replaced. The Amity Bridge is located just before Amity Avenue meets Cedar Street and turns into Myrtle Avenue, connecting the Jackson Hill neighborhood to the outskirts of downtown Muskegon. Amity Avenue is entirely closed from Fork Street to Spring Street, with additional road, sewer and lead line replacement work being done at the same time.

GRAND HAVEN, MI - A new housing development received final approval for rezoning by the Grand Haven City Council on Monday, June 2. South Village will be located at the former Dake Corps manufacturing property at 700 and 724 Robbins Road. The proposed project includes a mixture of housing types for a total of 189 units including single family homes, flats/apartments, townhomes and row houses. Of those units, 11 will be reserved for residents with a lower income.

MUSKEGON, MI - The fourth annual Muskegon Pride Festival is scheduled for Saturday in downtown Muskegon. The June 7 festivities will start with a parade downtown followed by an all-day celebration at Hackley Park, 350 W Webster Ave. The city saw 3,500 attendees at last year’s festival and the event has been steadily growing each year. This year’s biggest change is that the entire festival will be held in the park.

GRAND HAVEN, MI - The city of Grand Haven recognized June as Pride Month during its Monday, June 2, council meeting. Residents were emotional as they thanked city leaders for their acknowledgement of the month that honors those in the LGBTQ+ community. “Your leadership here sends a powerful message that everyone in this community belongs,” said Amy Ver Way, co-chair for the Pride festival and a local mental health therapist.
