OROVILLE, Calif. 4:20 P.M. UPDATE - A Hurleton man appeared in Butte County Superior Court on Wednesday to be arraigned for the shotgun death of an ex-girlfriend on Saturday. Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey says that 43-year-old Curtis Morales of Hurleton was charged with felony counts of murder with the use of a firearm and possession of a short-barreled shotgun for the shooting of 32-year-old Dakota Morningstar.

RED BLUFF, Calif. - The Red Bluff City Council will discuss keeping the designated homeless camp open a little longer than expected. Council members had planned to close the camp at Samuel Ayer Park, also known as Dog Island Park' this week. Instead, the council might extend the park's closure due to a lack of space at the local navigation center and other permanent housing locations. In March Action News Now reported that the council voted to close the park within 30 days, by April 18.

HAWKINS BAR, Calif. - This week's unsolved mystery concerns a woman who vanished from Trinity County 32 years ago. Jennifer Wilmer disappeared in September 1993. She had moved to California after dropping out of St.John's University in New York, where she had a full scholarship. There are two accounts of her disappearance. One report indicated someone had seen her leaving her home in Willow Creek to go to a travel agency to get an airplane ticket for a scheduled trip back to New York.

CHICO, Calif. — A Marysville Charter Academy for the Arts student was awarded a $4,500 scholarship after winning the Lions Club Student Speaker Contest Saturday at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico. Lisette Perez, a sophomore, earned top honors in the district-level competition, which included participants from 14 Lions Clubs spanning from Alturas to Yuba City. Her speech, focused on the negative impacts of artificial intelligence, was selected as the winner among three finalists.
