    SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — New interchanges in Sioux Falls and Rapid City seem to be cutting down on crashes. The diverging diamond at I-29 and 41st Street in Sioux Falls opened nearly a year ago. According to the South Dakota Department of Transportation, the interchange was averaging over 100 crashes a year before construction. It’s currently on track to have fewer than 30 in it its first year.

Craig Manning saw lots of orange cones as he traveled from northwest Iowa to the Sioux Falls area Thursday. “It was a lot more construction than I’ve seen for a while,” Craig Manning said. As you hit the road, be aware of the work zones you may encounter on your travels. One way to stay safe is watching your speed.

    SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Pheasant hunters bagged a bigger number of birds in 2024 compared to previous years. South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks says over 1.3 million roosters were harvested during the 2024 season, the highest in 13 years. The GF&P secretary says great habitat conditions have played a role in the increase.

    SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A summer series in downtown Sioux Falls is opening the streets to pedestrians. The event launched in May and will happen during First Fridays through August. The sound of pickleball will be coming to a stretch of Phillips Avenue this week. Remedy Pickleball Pub will offer a pop-up pickleball court Friday night in the Raven parking lot.

    SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Anyone could be affected by suicide. A Sioux Falls woman wants to prevent those tragedies and let grieving families know they’re not alone. Stefanie Kummer describes her son Alex as someone who was smart and witty. “He was everybody’s friend,” Stefanie Kummer said. But in September of 2021, Alex’s friends and family felt the pain of losing him. “Nobody knew that that was going to happen that day, that he was in a place of struggling,” Stefanie Kummer said.
