(WLOS) — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security lists Buncombe County as a "sanctuary jurisdiction," joining other cities and counties across the country that the agency says are not cooperating with federal immigration authorities. The list is organized by state and includes a mix of counties, cities and, in some cases, entire states. In North Carolina, Buncombe County was listed alongside Chatham, Durham and Orange counties.

(WLOS) — An unarmed man who was shot in his home by members of the Cherokee Indian Police SWAT team has reached a $10 million settlement with the parties named in a civil lawsuit. Ellis Boyle, the attorney for Jason Harley Kloepfer, confirmed the settlement will be paid by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Boyle said the parties are finalizing the details, and he anticipates his client will sign the paperwork soon.
