A barn in the town of Scipio was destroyed by a blaze that firefighters battled for about 90 minutes Friday night. Scipio Fire Department Chief Tim Weir Jr. told The Citizen that a call came in around 6 p.m. about a fully involved fire at 3478 Route 34. The blaze was largely extinguished by 7:30 p.m., Weir said, but the barn was a total loss. The structure was not connected to the home at the address, and no one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

One person was taken to a hospital following a two-car accident in the town of Fleming on Friday afternoon. An ambulance and a rescue vehicle from the Fleming Fire Department No. 1 responded to a crash at the intersection of South Street and Silver Street roads at about 3:45 p.m., the department said in a post on its Facebook page. One person was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Two people were taken to a hospital for injuries after a mobile home was destroyed in a fire Friday morning in the town of Brutus. Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck said in a news release that deputies responded at about 6:40 a.m. to a reported fire at the mobile home at 103 Briarwood Drive. Two people were able to exit the structure during the fire, but were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for non-life-threatening injuries. The home appears to be a total loss, Schenck said.
