Siiviis Gallery is turning 30 this month and to celebrate all their years uplifting local artists they are hosting a golden birthday party on May 30th and on May 31st. The gallery is located right in the heart in Canal Park. Friday, May 30th from 5:00pm-7:00pm, they’ll host an opening reception with live music, a social hour, and exclusive giveaways. Saturday, May 31st from 11:00am-2:00pm, they’ll have live painting, refreshments, and more giveaways.

New fun is in store for Bent Paddle's 12th Festiversary. Bent Paddle Brewing is celebrating it’s May birthday by hosting its 12th Festiversary block party. Saturday, May 9, the brewers take over a section of Bent paddle with live music, activities, and of course their beers. This year they are inviting local vendors so you can sip while you shop. Another new thing they are introducing is the thrifty ticket.

Monday, May 12th Hermantown theatre kids are hopping into the director’s chair for the Hermantown Once Act Festival as they direct the adult staff of the school. 5 different groups of students were tasked with directing staff members. Some with theatre experience and some with not. “It’s interesting! It’s like kind of cool to be in that position where you’re directing someone with an authority,” says junior Kendell Devleiger.

Thursday, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced that state business programs have helped create or retain a record 4,750 jobs in Minnesota this fiscal year. According to the the Governor’s Office: Since July 1, 2024, the Department of Employment and Economic Development’s (DEED) Job Creation Fund and Minnesota Investment Fund have supported 23 business expansions that will collectively create or retain nearly 4,750 jobs – the most since the programs’ inception in 2004.

The Lake Superior Zoo is introducing us to two reptile roommates they rescued from SeaQuest. Rescued animals from SeaQuest are still adjusting to their new homes at the Lake Superior Zoo. Right now they have a python and a tegu, which is a type of lizard, staying at the Griggs Learning Center. Their python is not fully grown yet but their Ambassador Animal keep Daniel Johnson said the snake species is huge. “These guys on an average could get upwards of 22 feet.
