Every Tuesday, you can find 70-year-old Becky Ballou Buck volunteering at the Aspirus St. Luke’s Breast Cancer Center. She’s checking in with patients, making calls, helping technicians and there to offer a comforting word. As a six-year survivor of breast cancer herself, Becky brings a tremendous value to the team and patients. Becky didn’t have a family history of breast cancer of any of the risk indicators. Her diagnosis was initially a shock and led to her retirement.

Despite widespread economic uncertainty, Minnesota’s economy is still looking strong. According to data released Thursday from Minnesota’s Department of Employment and Economic Development of DEED, Minnesota’s Labor Force continues to grow. Employers have added 10,700 jobs in March, which is the largest gain in the last year. The unemployment rate went up by 0.1% from the previous month, which DEED says is because of a wave of people joining the workforce.

Duluth City Councilor Mike Mayou, who represents the second district, is not seeking reelection. The move will allow Mayou to prioritize his family. His wife was recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and they became new parents in October. Mayou took office in January of 2022 at the age of 23.
