You might head to Rockefeller Center only once a year to glance at a very tall tree that was sacrificed to wear an outfit of colored lights. This brasserie from the Frenchette team is another reason to go there. You’ll see plenty of raw bar items on the menu, in addition to classics like buttery and garlicky escargots. But the meat dishes are priority number one. The bison au poivre is ridiculously tender.

The Mallard Drake is one of the better casual Greenpoint spots to have drinks with your PBR-loving friends. The roomy, retro-looking dive bar is filled with mismatched chairs that look like they were procured from 10 different thrift stores, and it has a covered patio. Downstairs, there’s a small pool table, and a window where you can order fries and a burger with grilled pineapple created by Taqueria Ramirez.
