Just one block from a sunny bench on the Great Hill, Mangetsu Sushi is the answer to all your (upper) Upper West Side sushi roll-and-stroll needs. The restaurant has affordable, good-quality basic rolls, as well as more creative combinations, and they also offer 20% off at lunch on weekdays if you're planning to sneak away from the desk for some sun. But eating in is a good option too, with window seating that looks out onto pretty residential buildings.

If, on a nice summer Saturday, you’re wondering where all the Citi Bikes have gone, they’re probably just clogging up the stations in Red Hook. At the center of the action is Strong Rope Brewery, where people sip flights of beer on a waterfront patio in the presence of Lady Liberty. There’s usually a food truck or two parked out front, but you can also bring your own snacks.

For anyone with a deep love of sushi and pockets to match, Sushi Sho near Bryant Park is a must-visit, right up there with Yoshino. If you ask anyone at Rao’s where you should eat, they will undoubtedly direct you to Patsy’s. Another cash-only relic of East Harlem’s Italian past, the 1933 thin-crust, coal oven pizzeria is our top dinner choice for when Rao’s does not offer you dinner. Patsy’s is also refreshingly low-key, with casual dates and a couple of pizza pilgrims dining under Frank Sinatra's portrait's watchful gaze.

Unlike a lot of the Pinterest-appropriate restaurants around Dumbo, this convenient little noodle bar is refreshingly DIY, right down to the shower curtain sectioning off a supply area under an overhanging staircase, and the occasional conversation-disrupting clatter of a B Train. Lucky Rabbit might not be much more than some narrow counter seating and an open kitchen with big vats on the other side, but it's got something special going on.
