"Festive Fanfare (For Akron's Bicentennial)" premiered to a packed house April 22 at E.J. Thomas Hall in Akron. The piece, created by Los Angeles composer Peter Boyer for Akron's Tuesday Musical Association, featured the brass and rhythm sections of the Cleveland Orchestra, led by trumpeter Michael Sachs. "This is an incredibly vibrant community," Boyer said before conducting the new work in Akron. "It seemed to me that Akron is a community that really punches above its weight.

Ohio Contemporary Ballet will celebrate the legacy of Akron's own choreographer with the dance concert "Honoring Heinz Poll" on April 25, a special event at E.J. Thomas Hall that will see two of Poll's masterpieces restaged for the first time in 20 years. Poll, who died in 2006, was founder of the Ohio Ballet in Akron, which performed locally and toured the nation and the world for more than 30 years.

David "Tig" Tigelman is the executive chef at Stirling, a fine dining restaurant in the Merriman Valley. He's held that position since September after working at the new restaurant since July. He's also a personal chef for Cavs player Max Strus, whom he started cooking for last year, as well as former Browns player TJ Carrie. He cooks for Strus on game days as well as Strus' nights off, which ranges from eight to 18 days per month.

For Akron's bicentennial, Tuesday Musical decided to do things big. That meant commissioning a brand new, celebratory musical work to fete the city and to record that work so the public could freely enjoy it, forever. "Festive Fanfare (For Akron's Bicentennial)," by Los Angeles orchestral composer Peter Boyer, celebrates the city's milestone in four bright, brilliant minutes for 19 brass and percussion players.
