Crust & Cocktails, a new gourmet pizza restaurant and bar, opened June 3 in Akron's Merriman Valley. The restaurant features specialty pizzas with fresh, high-quality ingredients, along with craft cocktails and a curated wine list. The restaurant is part of the revitalized Liberty Commons complex. Culinary director Lee Turano wanted to bring something a little different to the Liberty Commons neighborhood in Akron's Merriman Valley.

Six original Salvador Dali paintings, commissioned by Scabal in 1971, will be displayed for the first time in the U.S. at Peg's Foundation & Gallery in Hudson, Ohio. The exhibit, "Dali Beyond Time: Fashioning the Future," also features Kent State University student fashion designs inspired by Dali's work. The original paintings will be on display from June 12 to July 5, then replaced with reproductions until September 27.

Local Flavor on Wheels: This summer, we’re trying area food trucks for our Local Flavor series instead of sit-down establishments. We hope you’ll come along for the ride!Howlin Bird sounded like such a fun name for an eatery, I had to check out this food truck May 24 at the first Highland Square Food Truck Festival. Howlin Bird is a restaurant in North Canton whose food truck is lovingly nicknamed Big Red. It's so bright bold, it could probably be spotted a mile away.

Sixteen-year-old Mia Cahalane of Hudson High School is seeing her dream come true after winning best actress at the 10th anniversary high school Dazzle Awards last weekend at Playhouse Square. "I've been through the roof the past three days" with excitement, Cahalane, a junior, said May 20 of her big win. Hudson High has won best actress two years in a row now at the Dazzle Awards, with senior Lindsey Ross winning last year and going on to compete in the national Jimmy Awards in New York.

The original location for The Rail restaurant at Summit Mall will close May 23 as part of parent company Mike Mariola Restaurants' rebranding efforts. The Rail restaurants, which had been best known for their award-winning burgers, got a name change with the new moniker Rail Craft Kitchen & Bar last year for remaining eateries in Strongsville, Dublin and Grandview, Ohio.
