For Akron's bicentennial, Tuesday Musical decided to do things big. That meant commissioning a brand new, celebratory musical work to fete the city and to record that work so the public could freely enjoy it, forever. "Festive Fanfare (For Akron's Bicentennial)," by Los Angeles orchestral composer Peter Boyer, celebrates the city's milestone in four bright, brilliant minutes for 19 brass and percussion players.

It's that time of year again when scores of women volunteers from the Philoptochos gather at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Akron to mobilize for their big Easter Bake Sale of Greek goodies. It's a large effort leading up to the Easter Sunday celebration of the resurrection of Christ. And in the kitchen at Annunciation, the volunteer women have "resurrected" the popular karithopita honey walnut cake for this year's bake sale, said co-chair Kathryn Schlosser.

In "Merrily We Roll Along," the show starts out portraying three best friends on the rocks and then goes backward through time 20 years, to their young idealistic selves and, along the way, revealing where the bonds among them were broken. The musical, whose songs and lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim and book is by George Furth, premiered in 1981 on Broadway, directed by Hal Prince. The show's about to open at Firestone CLC, running Thursday through April 13.

New restaurants spanning various cultures opened across Summit County in March. Eateries sprung up in Akron, Stow, Green and Tallmadge with everything from bubble tea to roasted lamb bowls on their menus. A patisserie in Tallmadge transformed into a family-owned Serbian restaurant with lots of sweet treats. Green saw a restaurant serving chef inspired plates and hand-crafted cocktails open within its the old East Liberty School building.
