It's springtime, which is a good time to open a restaurant. The Akron area has seen three restaurant openings in April, each with a distinctive personality. Akron's East End ushered in a new eatery, Georgie's BBQ & Grill, which offers quick, casual options for weekday breakfast and lunch, Monday through Thursday. It's housed in the spacious East End lobby, which is decorated as beautifully as a hotel lobby.

Brunch at Flury's Cafe was a great way to spend some quality mother-son time recently with my teenager, Conor. This was our first visit to the corner cafe, which has been located on Front Street in Cuyahoga Falls for a decade and was on Sackett Avenue for a total of 49 years before that. From the moment we stepped into this old school-style cafe, the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable.

Ken and Lori Stewart, who have a lot to celebrate with the 35th anniversary of Ken Stewart's Grille, will host festivities for the whole month of May at their fine dining spot in West Akron. The celebration will kick off May 1, the exact 35th anniversary of Ken Stewart's Grille's opening in 1990. The couple will pass out champagne that evening for guests with dinner reservations to toast the American themed restaurant's milestone.

Wondering what that big barn is behind Bob's Hamburg in Akron? It's a new commercial kitchen called Stray Kitchens, created by Charly Murphy and Alicia Kennedy to increase production of pickled products, mustard, hot sauces, barbecue sauces and dry rubs for their Akron Pickle and Stray Dog Akron brands. The pair, who produced their foods for several years at Bounce Innovation Hub, had recently been creating everything from mustards to pickles at their two Stray Dog cafes downtown.
