By Kevin Robinson-Avila A new battle could soon be brewing over the future of the coal-fired Four Corners Generating Station near Farmington. It's the last coal plant still operating in New Mexico, and, until recently, most industry experts and environmental organizations expected the facility to shut down in 2031, when the coal contract and operating agreement among the plant's five current co-owners come to an end.

The White House announced $7 billion in funding for seven regional "hydrogen hubs" across the nation early Friday morning, none of which include New Mexico or the other three Rocky Mountain states that jointly competed for grant awards. President Joe Biden is expected to officially announce the awards in a speech today in Pennsylvania, which will benefit from funding in two different hubs that that state is part of.
