LAUDERDALE COUNTY Miss. (WCBI) – Just after 2 am on Friday, April 4, Lauderdale County Sheriff Deputies arrested 31-year-old Corey Kell. Kell is being charged with three counts of burglary of a commercial building, felony domestic violence, kidnapping, and domestic and simple assault. His bond has been set at $300,000. MISSISSIPPI. (WCBI) – The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency is actively responding to the severe weather events that affected the state this weekend. There are reports of homes damaged, trees down, flooding, and power outages due to the severe storms. Unfortunately, there has also been one fatality in Jasper County and one injury in Pontotoc County reported to MEMA. Initial damage assessments are underway, and 14 counties are currently reporting damage.

After the votes were counted, Ward 5 City Councilman Stephen Jones came out with a new title, Democratic Party candidate for Mayor. He outpolled longtime Lowndes County Supervisor Leroy Brooks 1857 votes to 1506. Dozens of Jones’ family members and friends showed up to the vote count, and they were very happy about the outcome.

LEAKE COUNTY Miss. (WCBI) – 14-year-old Kassidy Washington left her home at 1249 Ealy Road in Lena, Mississippi, at around 1:00 a.m. on February 3, and she has not been seen since. It is believed that she may have gotten into a vehicle parked down the road, but this has not been confirmed. About two weeks after Washington’s disappearance, an article in the newspaper stated that the Leake County Sheriff’s Office had requested the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the case.

The Department said if you get a text saying you owe toll road money to the Mississippi Department of Transportation, that is a false statement. The state of Mississippi has no toll roads, and the Mississippi Department of Transportation does not collect toll fees for other states.

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of an ongoing scam where the caller uses the phone number of the Sheriff’s Office, and the name of one of the department’s captains and deputies. The caller then tries to trick the victim into paying a certain amount of money, to avoid being arrested. This latest scam has to do with missing a federal court case where the victim of the scam was supposedly a witness in the case.

CLAY COUNTY Miss. (WCBI) 0- A man is now behind bars in Clay County facing several charges. The Mississippi Highway Patrol arrested 31-year-old Darius Evans Lenoir. Lenoir is being charged with Driving Under the Influence 4th offense, Possession of Schedule 3, 4, and 5 drugs, speeding 1 to 20 miles over the limit, no insurance, and the first offense of tinted windows. As of right now, his bond has been set at $749.00, and he is being held at the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
