Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Dunleer, on Monday, (26th May). The collision between a pedestrian and a bus occurred at approximately 12:15pm at Main Street, Dunleer. Collette Campbell who was in her 84th year was transferred by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, following the incident, where she was later pronounced dead. Investigating Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

A group of 556 survivors of mother and baby homes including 66 people from St Joseph’s home in Stamullen are to take a landmark High Court case over their exclusion from the State redress scheme. The Department of Children last year approved a compensation scheme for survivors of the institutions, but the strict criteria means children who were in a home for less than six months are not eligible for a payment.

The Education Minister Helen McEntee has paid tribute to the five girls who died in the Kentstown crash 20 years on. Lisa Callan, Clare McCluskey, Aimee McCabe, Deirdre Scanlon, and Sinéad Ledwidge, died after the school bus they were on overturned while rounding a bend on the Navan to Kentstown Road on this day in 2005. This afternoon, a remembrance ceremony will be held at Loreto Secondary School, St Michael’s in Navan.

A man in his 40s has appeared before Trim District Court following several drugs seizures across a number of counties. He was remanded to appear again on Tuesday the 3rd of June. Gardaí seized drugs in Meath, Westmeath, Dublin, Offaly and Clare yesterday along with cash. They recovered 125 thousand euro worth of cocaine, 168 thousand euro worth of cannabis herb and 41 thousand 600 euro worth of cannabis plants.

Two Israeli embassy staffers, a young couple about to be engaged, were killed by a lone gunman as they left an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC, on Wednesday night, and a suspect is in custody, officials said. The two were shot and killed in the area of 3rd and F Streets in Northwest, a part of central Washington that is about 2 km from the White House.
