Boy (17) drowns in County Carlow

A 17-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in County Carlow. Emergency services were alerted to the incident on the River Barrow at 6.30 yesterday evening. The young man was one of three teenagers swimming at Cloghristick, when he got into difficulty. A search - involving the fire service, Gardaí and ambulance service - was launched. The teenage boy was found at 11.30 last night by the Garda Water Unit.

The 3 year old odds on favourite trained by John and Thady Gosden finished three and half lengths ahead of Aidan O'Brien's Henri Matisse.

Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in tracing the whereabouts of 16-year-old David Adams who was reported missing from his home in Navan, Co. Meath on Sunday, 15th June 2025. David was last seen at home in Navan town on Saturday night, 14th June. David is described as being approximately 5 foot 9 inches in height, of slim build, with blonde hair and brown eyes. When last seen, David was wearing a grey t-shirt, black pants and a black hoodie.

A Status Yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Louth, Meath, Dublin and Wicklow. Met Éireann said that heavy falls of rain may cause localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions today. The warning came into force at 9.30am and is in valid until 6pm. In Northern Ireland, there is a Yellow level thunderstorm warning in force for Antrim, Armagh, Down. The alert took effect at 6am and will continue until 6pm.
Gardai renew their appeal for witnesses to fatal collision in Dunleer on Monday

Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision in Dunleer, on Monday, (26th May). The collision between a pedestrian and a bus occurred at approximately 12:15pm at Main Street, Dunleer. Collette Campbell who was in her 84th year was transferred by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, following the incident, where she was later pronounced dead. Investigating Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Survivors of mother and baby homes to take High Court case over exclusion from redress scheme

A group of 556 survivors of mother and baby homes including 66 people from St Joseph’s home in Stamullen are to take a landmark High Court case over their exclusion from the State redress scheme. The Department of Children last year approved a compensation scheme for survivors of the institutions, but the strict criteria means children who were in a home for less than six months are not eligible for a payment.
