Illegal fuel seized in Louth

55 thousand litres of suspected illegal fuel have been seized from a distributor and two filling stations in County Louth. Intelligence led Revenue's Customs Service to suspect the premises had been selling laundered fuel. The seized fuel was removed for further examination. Revenue says the illicit fuel trade is a serious threat to the Exchequer, and undermines the competitiveness of legitimate businesses.

Gardaí are appealing to the public for assistance in locating 12-year-old Sarganis (Kevin) Filipache, who has been reported missing from Dunleer, since Thursday afternoon (8th May). Kevin was last seen in Ashbourne, yesterday afternoon and is described as approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a slim build, black hair, and brown eyes. When last seen, he was wearing a light blue Nike tracksuit (differing shades) top and bottom and black Air Force runners.
20 pipe bombs found in Ardee

20 pipe bombs have been seized in Co. Louth. It's being linked to ongoing gang activity in the area. 190 thousand euro worth of cannabis was recovered on Tuesday April 29th. A cordon was put in place and the army bomb disposal team were called in. The Defence Forces team examined the devices and made them safe and the cordon was lifted. Gardaí say their investigations are ongoing.
Louth County Council to temporarily pause Housing Grants

Due to significant demand and the high volume of applications already processed in 2024, Louth County Council will temporarily pause the general acceptance of new applications for Housing Adaptation Grants (HAGs), Mobility Aid Grants (MAGs), and Housing for Older Persons (HOPs). The measure, which will come into effect from Friday, 9th May.

Garda with serious injuries after being hit by van in Ardee

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a dangerous driving incident in which a van was driven at a Garda in Ardee, this morning. Gardaí were on patrol in the Clonmore Estate at around 4:20am and approached a van that was parked up. The van was driven at Gardai and hit a Garda who had exited the patrol car to investigate. He sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
Man (30s) arrested in relation to criminal damage incidents in the Ravensdale

Gardaí in Dundalk have arrested a man as part of the investigation into a number of criminal damage incidents in the Ravensdale area. The man, aged in his 30s, is currently detained at a station in the Garda North Western Region. Earlier this week, two incidents of criminal damage occurred at a residential property in Ravensdale, Dundalk,Between 3:00am and 3:15am on 26th April, graffiti was daubed on the walls of the house at Doolargy and substantial damage was caused to a car parked outside.
Hosepipe ban to be in place for Kells/Oldcastle region from next week

A Water Conservation Order, commonly referred to as a hosepipe ban, will be in place for the Kells/Oldcastle Water Supply from midnight, on Tuesday, 6 May for a period of six weeks. The order applies to customers served by the regional water supply in Kells, Oldcastle, Drumone, Crossakiel, Fennor, Kilskyre, Newcastle, Kilmainham, Headfort and Carlanstown, and not the rest of the county.
39 people deported from Ireland last night

39 people - including 5 children - have been deported from Ireland overnight. The Justice Minister confirmed they'd been sent back to Georgia after failing to comply with a deportation order. It's the second time this year that people have been deported to Georgia. In February, 32 people were sent back on a flight. Georgia is one of the top countries where people seek asylum here.
Our Lady's Hospital records no hospital appointment cancellations as national figures released

Aontu leader Peadar Toibin has praised Our Lady's Hospital in Navan after the hospital had no cancelled appointments last year. Nearly 300,000 hospital appointments were cancelled across the country in 2024 according to figures released to Aontu. Locally, Louth County Hospital in Dundalk had 471 appointments cancelled down from 587 in 2023, while Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda there were 1,339 up from 431 in 2023.
