FLUSHING, Queens (PIX11) – The site of the iconic U.S. Open tournament in New York City is getting a makeover. The developers behind the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center said the three-year, $800 million project aims to give the famous tennis championship a more luxurious feel for both fans and athletes. More courtside seats will be added to the 25-year-old Arthur Ashe Stadium, increasing capacity from 3,000 to 6,000.

NEW JERSEY (PIX11) – NJ Transit trains are not running on Friday after the agency and its engineers failed to negotiate a contract, marking the first stoppage since 1983. An estimated 350,000 commuters will have to find other ways to get to work due to the strike. The talks between NJ Transit and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen fell apart late Thursday evening. Gov. Phil Murphy said NJ Transit is ready to restart discussions anytime.

NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) – Newark Liberty International Airport is still seeing some delays on Monday after hundreds of flights were held up due to a ground stop over the weekend. Over 300 flights were delayed or canceled due to a communication issue with air traffic controllers directing flights in and out of the airport on Sunday. The FAA said the airport was also affected by a 90-second radar blackout on Friday, the second outage in several weeks.
