Two puppies, both Pug crosses, are adjusting to their temporary home in West Kelowna, B.C., after being abandoned in a box on the side of the road in the Shuswap. “They were very, very thirsty. They were dehydrated. They were covered in fleas,” said Romany Runnalls, president of the Okanagan Humane Society (OHS). The seven-week old puppies, currently in the care of OHS, were found on a rural road in Tappen, just outside of Salmon Arm early Tuesday morning.

Stephen Fuhr’s campaign office filled with supporters Wednesday afternoon as a former B.C. premier officially endorsed the Liberal candidate running in the Kelowna riding. “When Stephen was your member of parliament he delivered a lot,” former Liberal premier Christy Clark told an enthusiastic group of supporters. Clark, who served as premier between 2011 and 2017, said she believes Fuhr is the best person for the job to represent Kelowna’s interests in Ottawa.

As the use of e-scooters grows in popularity among students, so do safety concerns. “The electric scooters, the different mopeds, electric bicycles we are seeing are very prevalent in our school community, ” said Graham Johnson, vice-principal at Okanagan Mission Secondary (OKM) in Kelowna, B.C.“We are seeing students in grade 9 through 12 that are bringing them to school.”The mode of transportation is widely used by students at OKM but staff have observed some concerning practices.

A Shuswap, B.C., compost facility that has grown well beyond its initially approved site will have to reduce its foot print to meet compliance. As per staff recommendation, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) board has voted against the passing of first reading, which would have allowed the Spa Hills Compost Facility to continue operating on a much larger scale but within the bylaw regulations.

Legal counsel for both the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and an ostrich farm in the West Kootenay region continued their arguments Wednesday, the second day of a judicial review involving the fate of 400 ostriches. Dozens of the birds died in December from an avian flu outbreak at Universal Ostrich Farms near Edgewood, prompting the CFIA to order a cull of the entire remaining flock.
