    UPDATE: 11:57 a.m. A resident on the second floor of Central Green told Capital News that he was writing a final exam when he got a call that his apartment was on fire. The man said he rushed home as he had a cat inside his unit. According to the resident, smoke was coming from inside his unit which alerted his neighbours. The man managed to rescue his cat before fire crews arrived. It’s believed something may have been left on the stove, which sparked the blaze.

    Fraudulent calls that appear to use the Kelowna RCMP’s non-emergency phone number are once again making their rounds. According to Cpl. Michael Gauthier, fraudsters are manipulating caller ID to make it appear as though they are calling from the Kelowna RCMP detachment’s non-emergency line (250-762-3300) and posing as an RCMP officer with a fake badge number.

    Kelowna RCMP have been investigating a series of thefts on a local business that occurred between September 2024 and December 2024. Officers strategically collected evidence including banking records, video surveillance, and witness statements targeting one individual who is now charged with 21 counts of theft under $5,000. On March 24, 37-year-old Ryan Eisenhut was arrested with 21 charges of theft from a single business in Kelowna.

    A Kelowna RCMP officer is expected to make a full recovery after they were injured during an arrest, Thursday evening. Police responded to a theft from a business in the 500 block of Highway 33 at approximately 5:45 p.m.  An officer located the suspect, however, while attempting to arrest the person, they fled on foot, stated RCMP.   According to police, the suspect was quickly located again behind a business in the 200 block of Hollywood Road and resisted arrest.
