The Strom Thurmond baseball team's season came to an end Wednesday night in the Class AA Upper State finals. The Rebels needed to win twice in one night at Batesburg-Leesville but lost 9-4 in game one. Hayden James and Bryston Bryant had two hits apiece for the Rebels, who trailed 4-0 through two innings before tying the game in the top of the fourth. Strom Thurmond loaded the bases with one out and then went to work clearing those bases, starting with a Daley Hitt RBI single.

Kiera Nickles was a late arrival to South Aiken High School after moving here from Pennsylvania midway through her junior year. Her senior season also was a bit disjointed as she recovered from a major injury. College programs back in Pennsylvania didn't really catch her eye, and nothing in terms of recruitment really came about until the end of her high school career. As it turns out, everything was right on schedule.
