MADISON, Wis. -- A Madison man who was declared AWOL from the Dane County Jail Diversion program over the weekend was arrested Thursday and returned to the jail, a Dane County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said Friday. Casey J. Schultz, 45, was serving a sentence for contempt of court, and was set to be released six days before he was declared AWOL.

MADISON, Wis. -- A fire at an apartment on Madison's east side that displaced five people last week is being investigated as arson, a fire department spokesperson said Friday. The May 20 fire in the 1700 block of Blossom Lane was reported at around 6 a.m. Firefighters found flames in a basement apartment. Nobody was hurt, but the fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damages.

MADISON, Wis. -- Spring has sprung and three peregrine falcon chicks have hatched at the nesting box at Madison Gas and Electric's downtown Madison Blount Generating Station. The three chicks hatched earlier this month. Mother Trudy laid four eggs in April, marking the 11th year that she and her mate, Melvin, have returned to the box. One of the eggs did not hatch, however MGE said that is normal.

WATERTOWN, Wis. -- A suspicious object that prompted police in Watertown to evacuate some residents and tell others to avoid downtown Thursday night was not an actual explosive, police said Friday. The object, which was initially reported as a possible pipe bomb, was placed on a residential gas meter just after 7 p.m. Thursday night. Officers evacuated nearby residents as a precaution and blocked access to the area.
