SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Art, history and technology collide in a new exhibit opening at the Telfair Children’s Art Museum. The museum at the Jepson Center will unveil the “World of William O. Golding” exhibit on Saturday, May 10. This is the first new exhibit since the Children’s Art Museum opened in 2023. It uses interactive experiences and immersive technology to engage and educate.

BLUFFTON, S.C. (WTOC) - Bluffton’s historic Heyward House Museum is getting some some upgrades thanks to an Historic Preservation Grant. A $20,000 grant to the Historic Bluffton Foundation in April will be used to assemble and install custom window shutters. The former summer cottage on Boundary Street in Old Town Bluffton was constructed in 1841 for John J. Cole. It survived the “Burning of Bluffton” in June 1863 by union troops.

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) - Hundreds of students hit the beach Friday, May 2 to create temporary works of art for the SCAD Sand Arts Festival. About 900 students work on nearly 400 plots of sand near the Tybee Pier and Pavilion. They compete in different categories such as sand sculpting, sand relief, and good old sand castles. In addition to work on the sand, the festival also features an “Air” category for pre-made sculptures design to capture and harness the wind.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Clans will unite and then face off on the field of battle this weekend at the 47th Annual Savannah Scottish Games & Celtic Festival. Bynuh’s Field at Bethesda Academy will be the sight for 70 athletic competitions and tug-of-war, bagpiping competitions and the Southeast USA Highland Dancing Regional Championships. Nearly 40 clans will be represented at the games.

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort has a new man in charge. Colonel Trevor J. Felter assumed command at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 29. The Ohio native arrives with more than 30 years experience in the U.S. Marine Corps. He most recently served as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-7 at Marine Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia. He replaces Col. Mark Bortnem, who was relieved of his duties on Apr. 15. A ceremony to formally introduce Col. Felter will be announced in the future.
