In addition to the murder charge, Joshua Arthur Mielke, 16, was charged as an adult with two counts of aggravated kidnapping and two counts of firing a gun causing serious injury, aggravated assault, all felonies and assault, a class A misdemeanor.

WEST JORDAN — A person in a white truck with a trailer left a pile of trash in a church parking lot before driving away on the night of the U.S. elections. “The person dumped all the trash and drove away,” Sgt. Andrew Hercules with the West Jordan Police Department said.

He was running against Democrat challenger Brian King and a determined and litigious write-in campaign from fellow Republican Rep. Phil Lyman who ran as an independent. With incomplete voting numbers reported from Utah, Cox had 54% of the vote compared to 34% for King. Lyman recorded 7.5% with write ins.

SALT LAKE CITY — A person was shot by U.S. Marshals and taken to a hospital Monday, as he attempted to flee from law enforcement officers. According to preliminary information, the Marshals were acting as part of a fugitive task force. There is a heavy police presence in the area of 2100 South and Lincoln Street, in the Sugar House neighborhood near a Smith’s grocery store and Burt Brothers tire shop. The person shot was taken to a hospital but that person’s condition is not currently known.
