Candidates running to represent District 1, District 6 and District 8 on the San Antonio City Council will appear in live debates hosted by the San Antonio Report ahead of early voting. The series of council runoff debates will be held at Texas Public Radio and will be free and open to the public, though a donation is requested. The San Antonio Report is doubling its local coverage of education issues by adding its first-ever higher education reporter to the team. Danya Pérez, a bicultural and bilingual reporter from El Paso, will join the Report as its inaugural higher education reporter this month.

Over the years, it’s grown and changed in many ways to better help San Antonians navigate confusing elections. Today, we couldn’t be prouder of this latest evolution: We’ve extended the 2025 Voter Guide farther than ever down the ballot to profile 38 school board candidates and three major bond elections voters will weigh in on May 3.

There are 27 candidates on the ballot, from a true variety of political, social and economic backgrounds. Statewide and national political action committees are funneling significant funds into the race — and the candidates who aren’t on the receiving end of that outside money are scrambling and self-funding to keep up.

We’re quickly approaching San Antonio’s first open mayoral election in 16 years, and the stakes for local voters couldn’t be higher. A whopping 27 candidates threw their hats in the ring to replace outgoing Mayor Ron Nirenberg, and 59 candidates are running for 10 City Council seats, all of which are up for grabs on Saturday, May 3, smack-dab in the middle of San Antonio’s annual Fiesta celebration.
