Candidates running to represent District 1, District 6 and District 8 on the San Antonio City Council will appear in live debates hosted by the San Antonio Report ahead of early voting. The series of council runoff debates will be held at Texas Public Radio and will be free and open to the public, though a donation is requested. The San Antonio Report is doubling its local coverage of education issues by adding its first-ever higher education reporter to the team. Danya Pérez, a bicultural and bilingual reporter from El Paso, will join the Report as its inaugural higher education reporter this month.

We are discontinuing comments for two reasons: No. 1, the staff hours and other costs associated with hosting comments on our site are not sustainable. No. 2, we want to engage more directly with readers about the issues that matter to them most.
