Signal Cleveland is proud to support two community spelling bees this year for children in East Cleveland and Cleveland’s Central neighborhood. Members of the Signal Cleveland Listening Team designed and piloted the first spelling bee in 2023 after hearing from community stakeholders that students in Central could benefit from targeted educational interventions. This year, two members of that original team are coordinating two separate spelling bees.

As a proud parent of two, I’ve celebrated a lot of milestone birthdays over the years. My children’s birthdays are times I honor not just their growth but my own. Today feels a bit like that. It is Signal Cleveland’s 2nd birthday. We launched our website on Nov. 15, 2022. In the months before that, a small team of us were tasked with naming, branding and launching the newsroom.

A multi-car procession in honor of fallen Cleveland Police officer Jamieson Ritter stepped off this morning from Chambers Funeral Home on Rocky River Drive. It weaved its way through the city as Greater Clevelanders lined the streets to pay their respects to the four-year Cleveland Police veteran. The procession ended at a memorial service downtown. According to the police department, Ritter’s funeral will take place out of state.
