DANBURY — Four candidates are seeking to serve Position 6 on the Danbury ISD Board of Trustees, take over from a temporary appointee. The seat is held by Roy LoStracco, who the board appointed to the seat when Tim Dean resigned June 17. LoStracco is not running to keep the position. Kirby Calhoun is on the finance committee at his church, serves on the Alvin Girls Softball Association and is a volunteer with Danbury ISD.

Pope Francis, who conducted his papacy with the humility and devotion to the world's pour, is being mourned around the globe, including by local Roman Catholic faithful. The 88-year-old pontiff died at 7:35 a.m. Monday at the Casa Santa Marta guesthouse at the Vatican where he lived. The Vatican's top physician, Dr. Andrea Arcangeli, said in a statement Francis died of a cerebral stroke and irreversible heart failure.
