A Chicago rock star is taking the stage as part of the upcoming 2025-2026 season of the Lyric Opera. It's been 30 years since the breakthrough album the Smashing Pumpkins' "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness". Now Chicago rocker Billy Corgan is marking the anniversary with a collaboration with the Lyric Opera. Corgan says he could never have dreamed to be composing and reimagining his music on the Lyric stage.

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Walk by a garden level condo in Lincoln Square, and you'll likely hear plenty of music. In one room, Alan Lewis works with adult student Mo Ulicny on her electric guitar. On this day, she's working to compose and produce her own music. "Alan has been working with me to turn these little ukulele songs into full-blown songs and then recording them and listening for harmonies and other parts and doing the whole thing on Garage Band which has been wonderful," Ulicny said smiling.

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two of the most infamous man-eating lions in history are celebrating a milestone at the Field Museum. The Tsavo Lions arrived at the museum in 1925. Since then, they have been visited by millions of people. Scientist and Collections Manager Tom Naski was one of them. At 4 years old, he met the lions for the first time and he's been studying them for nearly 40 years now.

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Cherie Animashaun, 20, says her first memory of the danger of guns was when her mother wouldn't let her go to her favorite park anymore. "I remember in kindergarten, I used to go to the park behind my house in Evanston, and, one day, my mom told me we couldn't go to the park anymore. She said it wasn't safe," says Animashaun. The Cornell University student and Evanston Township High School graduate didn't even know what a gun was, but she remembers being afraid.

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Chicago New Orleans-themed restaurant and bar is doing its part to help the victims and families of the New Year's Day tragedy. Sunny Linn opened NOLA Bar & Kitchen in Wrigleyville in 2016 as a tribute to one of her favorite cities. "New Orleans is a place [where] people always celebrate something," Linn told WBBM. "Every time I've been there it's happy people, great food, great music.
