Blue "Great Lakes" plateTwo classic Michigan license plate designs are making a comeback! Blue “Great Lakes” and black “Great Lake State” plates will be available Feb. 1. Starting in 2023, the State has issued replica designs of plates originally launched in the 1970s and 1980s. Drivers pay a one-time $55 fee, which includes a $5 plate service fee and $50 that will be deposited into the Michigan Transportation Fund (MTF), to purchase the plate. There will be a $10 renewal fee.

Adam Spencer KnutesonGAYLORD — On Dec. 1, 2024, a trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post responded to an alleged assault at the Dollar General on M-32. The suspect had already left the scene, but the trooper spoke with the victim who said Adam Spencer Knuteson from Johannesburg had threatened him with a knife in the parking lot. They said the incident began inside the store when Knuteson was arguing with a store employee.

SAULT STE. MARIE — Snowmobilers completed the first day of time trial at the 56th running of the I-500 endurance race. At 500 laps around a one mile track of ice, with sled speeds well over 100 mph at times, the I-500 is considered to be the most grueling and prestigious snowmobile race in the world. One of four qualifying rounds took place Wednesday afternoon, with 42 racers competing. That number is expected to drop to around 38.

Deputies executed a search warrant at the home in Harrison and said several people were inside at the time. Deputies found meth pipes, a small amount of crystal meth packed for sale and a small amount of fentanyl.

James BriskeyA man was arrested for meth in Clare County after deputies said he assaulting people with wasp spray. On Jan. 23, Clare County Central Dispatch received a call of a domestic assault in Lincoln Township. Deputies arrived to find James Briskey of Lake George spraying people in the home with wasp spray. During their investigation, they saw a meth pipe in plain view. There were told it belonged to Briskey.
