An advocate for those given wrongful convictions, she ran a foundation and sanctuary from her home in Casla with her late husband, Peter Pringle. She was born in Queens and grew up in a Jewish family in Elmont, New York. She went to college at 16, but dropped out when she became pregnant. Her son Eric Stuart was born just before her 19th birthday and she married his father, Kenny, but the relationship did not last.

However, current targets on designating marine protected areas (MPAs) are not enough to halt biodiversity loss, and other measures will need to be taken, a study involving six Irish scientists showed. Named MegaMove, the sharing of data by nearly 400 scientists from over 50 countries informed the UN-backed global research, which is published in the journal Science on the eve of UN World Oceans Day tomorrow.

Ireland’s increased exposure to coastal flooding, coastal erosion and extreme wind requires urgent action within the next five years, an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) report says. The EPA’s National Climate Change Risk Assessment, published today (Wed, June 4th), provides government, business, communities and other stakeholders with “the best available evidence and analysis to inform climate adaptation and resilience in Ireland at a national level”, it says.
