A strong track season at the University of Portland earned former Eisenhower standout Jonas Price a unique opportunity to compete against elite runners this Saturday in Yakima. Yakima Valley's efforts to provide an entertaining home opener didn't go exactly as planned Tuesday night, both from a baseball perspective and a logistical one. The Pippins still created plenty of drama, keeping the game close thanks to strong pitching, as well as a failure to capitalize on opportunities offensively. Most importantly, Yakima Valley held on to beat Walla Walla 2-1, a much-needed win after two straight ugly losses in Wenatchee.

Aysia Garcia already looked the part after finishing third behind senior Mia Hicks in the 100 meters at the 2024 1A state track and field meet. This season's solidified Garcia's willingness to put in the work necessary to follow Hicks, who continues to excel and won the NWAC heptathlon during her freshman year at Clark College.

A WIAA spokesperson told me "There was no concern about Parker Faller's lighting at the time the site was selected" and said they were not aware of any lighting issues after a check on Tuesday, May 27.

Controversy last night in Yakima: Puyallup and Lake Washington will finish their 4A state semifinal game this morning after it was postponed due to non-functional lights. Puyallup coach Marc Wiese claims the WIAA knew about the issues before the event ⤵️ https://t.co/sAwqc9bdA2
