May 10-A Yakima man was killed in a traffic collision near the Vernita Bridge Friday morning. James Sandall, 68, died at the Kadlec Regional Medical Center, according to a news release from Washington State Patrol. At approximately 11 a.m., Sandall was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Corvette when he pulled out of the Vernita rest area, turning left to go eastbound on State Route 24 at milepost 43, striking a 1989 GMC Sierra. Both vehicles were totaled.

May 10-A 37-year-old man died of his injuries after he was shot early Saturday morning in Yakima, police said. Yakima police were called to the 1100 block of North Fourth Street at approximately 1:06 a.m. to an apartment with a gunshot victim inside, according to a news release from the Yakima Police Department. Police officers and medical personnel began lifesaving efforts, but the man did not survive.

Downtown Summer Nights will have a three-concert lineup in a new location in downtown Yakima this year. The free, family friendly summer concert series, hosted by Downtown Association of Yakima, will take place in the back lot of the Rotary Pavilion Marketplace, 15 W. Yakima Ave. The new format will feature one concert a month. In years past, Downtown Summer Nights was a nine-week series from June through August.
