There exists a strange and unnerving phenomenon that one of our news producers experienced this morning, that feels like it could be an omen for... something. He awoke to the sound of banging from downstairs, in his living room. As he cautiously approached the room, uncertain of what to expect, he discovered it was something he could not have predicted: a bird was repeatedly flying into his family's bay window. Over and over and over again.

MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. — A very small area in the perimeter of where the Gray Fire burned in Medical Lake is still burning almost nine months later. A spokesperson for Spokane County Fire District 3 confirmed a small pile of debris near Eastern State Hospital remained smoldering on Friday. The debris pile is made of building material from the 1900's that got dumped, pushed into a hole and filled in with dirt. The buried pile of rubbish is now smoldering deep in the ground.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer will be leaving his position, but he won't be resigning. Schaeffer clarified his situation Thursday morning, saying in an email that he has not resigned, but he does intend to retire. The message contradicted information sources in city hall told NonStop Local KHQ on Wednesday. Schaeffer himself couldn't be reached for comment on Wednesday.

SPOKANE, Wash.- A Washington state man appeared in Spokane's Federal Courthouse to face charges related to the January 6 Riots. The FBI received a tip from the public about Elliot Williams. Court docs say that someone who knows him saw him on the front page of CBS News' website and contacted authorities.
