BRONZEVILLE — Jayden McKinnon never counted on playing college ball at the schools he grew up watching. The Walter H. Dyett High School Eagles have long counted on McKinnon, a senior whose high school career ended with the school’s first state championship this season. The underdog team embodied a remarkable rebound for the small arts school at 555 E. 51st St., which was saved from closure a decade ago after a group of community members staged a monthlong hunger strike.

A state bill requiring companies to provide an itemized list of fees before a purchase — or include it in the total advertised price — sailed through the House of Representatives and a key Senate committee Tuesday.

CHICAGO — Thursday night’s thunderstorms knocked out power for more than 100,000 people in Illinois and Indiana and damaged numerous trees. More than 1,360 outages, affecting more than 17,000 customers, were still active in the Chicago area as of Friday morning, according to ComEd data. The majority of the remaining outages are on the Far South Side and in the south suburbs, although customers throughout Chicago have been impacted.

CHICAGO — Another 11 speed cameras near parks and schools have been activated. The cameras went live in bunches May 1 and Thursday, the second phase of a city plan to add 50 speed cameras this year, according to a Chicago Department of Transportation news release.
