'Stamp Out Hunger' food drive organizers encourage community members to donate

MADISON (WKOW) - The National Association of Letter Carriers, or NALC, is preparing for their annual 'Stamp Out Hunger' food drive, held in Madison area communities on Saturday, May 10. "Just put food in a bag by your mailbox, and then later on that day, when your mailman delivers the mail, they pick up the food, and then at the end of the day, they'll deliver it to the local food pantry in our community," said food drive organizer Pat Nee. 27 News is a proud sponsor of 'Stamp Out Hunger'.

GREEN COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is alerting drivers near Brodhead of an incident between WIS 11 and County B. A fire on WIS 104 northbound/southbound has all lanes blocked in both directions. Officials were called to the scene around 4:10 a.m. According to WisDOT the estimated duration of the lane blockage is two hours. An alternate route for northbound traffic would be to take WIS 11 eastbound to WIS 213, head north to County B and head west back to WIS 104.

The district said the Highland Ave. Sewer Project is a major sanitary sewer construction project to install critical wastewater infrastructure. This project requires phased closure of the on- and off-ramps at University Ave./ Campus Dr. and Highland Ave. through September 2025.

TOWN OF IXONIA, Wis. (WKOW) -- A person is dead after a single vehicle accident involving a moped, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff Travis Maze says, on Monday around 3:26 p.m., deputies responded to the crash on CTH CW near Gopher Hill Rd. in the Town of Ixonia. Preliminary investigations show, the moped driver was traveling westbound on CTH CW on the pavement, but to the right of the fog line.

MADISON (WKOW) - Monona police officers arrested three people Thursday night following a crash on the south side of Madison. According to a press release, at 8:13 p.m. on Thursday MOPD officers were alerted to a stolen Nissan Altima driving on E. Broadway in the City of Monona. Officers located the car near the Monona Kwik Trip. When officers initiated a traffic stop, the suspect driver failed to stop, traveling west on Broadway before merging onto westbound US 12.
One in custody following reports of multiple assaults in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) --- One man is in custody after Madison Police received reports of someone assaulting multiple people. Officers responded to the 500 block of State St. around 8:50 p.m. Eventually two MPD sergeants located a male matching the description given to police. A uniformed police officer ordered the man to stop, but the man fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, police took the man into the Dane County jail on multiple criminal charges.
