EDGEWATER — An Edgewater intersection that has long attracted neighbors’ concerns over being unsafe for pedestrians could be getting a new type of crosswalk infrastructure. Chicago Department of Transportation officials are proposing a “pedestrian hybrid beacon” for the five-way intersection of Ridge, Hollywood and Wayne avenues, which currently does not have any stop signs or traffic lights.

ROGERS PARK — One of Loyola’s buildings on Sheridan Road is going to be torn down this summer to make room for a building for its nursing program. Campion Hall, 6551 N. Sheridan Road, is one of Loyola’s few buildings outside of its main campus to the south, and it’s also the university’s oldest residence hall, built in 1954, according to the school. It needs to be torn down because the upkeep of its “deteriorating condition” is costly, according to the university.

ANDERSONVILLE — The popular men’s lifestyle store Cowboys and Astronauts is reopening this summer after its founders sold the business to a local couple. Tyler Leasher and Brian Mamassian, who are business and life partners, are the new owners of Cowboys and Astronauts, 1478 W. Summerdale Ave. The store will reopen in time for Andersonville’s Midsommarfest, which starts June 13, although an exact opening date has not been set, they said.

ANDERSONVILLE — A popular Chicago hot dog chain is opening in the former Reza’s restaurant on Clark Street. Devil Dawgs is opening this summer at 5259 N. Clark St., a spokesperson for the company confirmed. It will be the sixth location for the local hot dog chain. The restaurant is taking over one half of the former home of Reza’s, a popular and longstanding Persian restaurant that closed its doors in 2023.

KENWOOD — A music festival highlighting Latino music has been called off about two months before it was supposed to happen. Miche Fest, previously called Michelada Fest, offers a two-day lineup of Latino artists, local food stands and “top-tier” michelada vendors. It was slated to happen at Oakwood Beach July 19-20.
