(Avoca) The Regional Water Rural Water Association announced that the Boil Advisory, which went into effect on May 14, 2025, has been lifted effective immediately for the town of Panama. This strictly applies to the residents within the city limits of Panama. Regional Water was notified by the certified operator of Panama that they had completed their two sets of bacteria samples, and all samples came back negative for bacteria. As such, the boil advisory is no longer in effect for this town.

(Des Moines) Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has signed two significant pieces of legislation aimed at supporting both first responders and the state’s workforce. On Friday, Gov. Reynolds signed House File 969, expanding cancer coverage under the Peace Officers’ Retirement System and the 411 Retirement System. The new law broadens the definition of cancer to include all forms of the disease, allowing more comprehensive benefits for first responders diagnosed with any type of cancer.

(Pottawattamie Co) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday appointed an Interim Engineer. Last week, the Supervisors voted 3-2 to terminate County Engineer John Rasmussen’s contract, effective June 30, and placed him on administrative leave until that date. Supervisor Tim Wichman made the motion with little explanation, stating only that he believes the county needs to move in a different direction.

(Neola) Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad will be closing their crossing at L-55 in Neola on Tuesday, June 10th starting at 8:00 a.m. to perform maintenance on the crossing. Pottawattamie County Secondary Roads said this closure is scheduled to take 6 hours. The roadway will be back open by end of day.
