Booker-prize winner Paul Lynch was presented with an Honorary Doctorate at the University of Limerick on Friday, where he was hailed as “one of the great novelists of his generation”. The Limerick native was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Letters by Acting UL President Shane Kilcommins. The author won the prestigious Booker Prize in 2023 for his novel , set in a dystopian Ireland which examined what the country would be like under a totalitarian reign.

Tributes have poured for Jack O’Donoghue, a young man who died after his motorbike crashed in west Limerick on Wednesday. Mr O’Donoghue, aged 33, died in a single vehicle collision on the N69 at Cloonreash on Wednesday, shortly before 8pm. His body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where an autopsy was due to take place. Originally from Clounreask, Askeaton, the young man has been described by family as a “pure gent”. “Rest easy Jack. We’re all heartbroken.

Emergency services including An Garda Síochána are currently at the scene of a serious collision in west Limerick. A Garda spokesperson confirmed that gardaí are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the N69, Askeaton, which occurred this Wednesday evening. It is understood that a motorcyclist was injured in the incident. "The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place," said the spokesperson. "No further information is available at this time.”
