Limerick will play host to an international summit which will celebrate women’s contributions to film, television and media. The Women in Film and Television International (WIFTI) will be held in Adare’s Woodlands House Hotel in February 2026. The announcement was made during the Cannes film festival by Limerick woman Dr Susan Liddy, who lectures in Mary Immaculate College and is the president of WIFTI, and chair of Women in Film and Television Ireland.

A cyclist has died following a collision with a tractor in Co Clare. The incident occurred at Toonagh, Tulla this Saturday afternoon. Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene following report of the collision, involving a tractor and a bicycle, which occurred on the L3180 at approximately 12.45pm. The cyclist, a woman aged in her 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Limerick mayor John Moran has signed off on plans to build 73 residential units and 42 apartments and develop a medical facility on land owned by the council. Cluid Housing and Whitebox have been given approval to use the land in a joint venture after they emerged as the successful bidders to develop the site, which will be known as ‚ÄėGreenhills‚Äô. In 2023, elected members granted a Section 183, which led to a planning application for the mixed-use development on the site being granted in 2024.

Gardaí have searched “several acres of farmland” after two young men were spotted aggressively whipping a horse in County Tipperary. In a widely circulated video, allegedly filmed in Clonmel, a horse can be seen in distress as a young man aggressively whips it while running alongside a carriage driven by another young man. In a statement to the , Gardaí confirmed they were aware of the video and that enquiries are ongoing.

Pope Leo XIV made a Kerry teen an “honorary Augustinian” before he died after battling cancer in 2013. Donal Walsh was 12 years old when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. While battling a terminal diagnosis, Donal wrote a letter condemning teenage suicide and encouraging others to appreciate life. Following the letter, he made an appearance on in April 2013.
