Portland’s July Fourth holiday heat wave starts Thursday with a relatively mild high in the low 90s, but then the fireworks really get going with an excessive heat warning kicking in until late Sunday. The National Weather Service predicts “dangerously hot conditions,” including a string days at 100 or over and warm nights cooling only into the mid-60s and low 70s. Fire danger also picks up as the heat dries out vegetation, forecasters say. The hottest day is expected to be Sunday at 104 .

A 23-year-old man who police allege shot two people in the Portland area is now accused of strangling and abusing an underage girl in Washington County and taking explicit videos of her and sharing them, court records show. Washington County sheriff’s officials said detectives believe other girls may be victims in the case and are continuing to investigate. Marquise D. Brazile remained held Saturday at the Washington County Jail.

A man died after a shooting Friday night in a house in North Portland’s Kenton neighborhood and another man is under investigation in the death, police said. Police got a call about a shooting at the house in the 3000 block of North Terry Street shortly before 8 p.m. They found evidence of gunfire inside but no victim, they said. Officers learned a wounded man was enroute to the hospital in a private car. He died of his injuries, police said.

In a city known for its affinity for weirdness, the weather is playing along for the next few days as forecasts call for rain, possible snow showers, rain again and maybe a spot of thunder. Snow flurries could hit before 2 p.m. Saturday until only rain is expected, the National Weather Service says. Little to no snow accumulation is expected, but people may hear the rumble of thunder Saturday, forecasters say.
