The state Department of Transportation confirmed May 2 that the roundabout project at the intersection of High School Road and Highway 305 will proceed as scheduled, with the pre-design process set to kick off this summer.

    As voices rang out around the world calling for truth, justice and an end to the Trump administration, Bainbridge Island’s grassroots organizing community grew some deeper roots. Over 1,000 people attended the Hands Off! rally on BI April 5 as part of a global demonstration against recent actions by Trump and associate Elon Musk. Early estimates show about 1 million people participated in the protest, including thousands in all 50 states, as well as Berlin, Paris and London.

    As officials at the Bainbridge Island School District seek to cut costs, some fees will shift to families. This June, each graduating senior at BISD will have to cough up $30 to cover part of the cost of printing diplomas and renting the technology needed for the graduation ceremony. School board members approved the change at the Feb. 27 meeting.

The 35th annual Bainbridge Island Mochi Tsuki Festival attracted thousands of people Jan. 11, bringing out the confectioner, dancer, musician and historian in all who attended. Prepared mochi is taken to the mochi shaping station, where it is rolled into balls with sugar and shoyu, or soy sauce.
