Ten new bat boxes have been installed in St Helena Park in Dundalk by Bat Conservation Ireland. The ten Schwegler boxes were erected on trees in the park as part of East Coast Bat Box scheme which saw volunteers who helping to install bat boxes in coastal woodland sites. Other locations where bat boxes were erected are East Coast Nature Reserve, Rathcoole, Co. Wicklow, Raven Nature Reserve, Wexford and it’s also planned to erect some at a location in Co Antrim.

The alarm was raised at midnight and a crew of retained firefighters from Carlingford dealt with the blaze at the Turf Road which extended up the mountains. Conditions were very difficult due to the recent prolonged smell of dry weather. One appliance attended at the scene and the firefighters brought the blaze under control using caf (compressed air foam) and beaters to extinguish the fire.
