GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Workers at Grand Island’s JBS Swift meatpacking plant will get better pay, paid sick leave and a pension plan under a new contract between the packer and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW.)In a press release on the UFCW’s website, the union says workers ratified the new contract in May. The agreement covers workers at 14 plants around the country, including Grand Island, which employs about 3,600 workers.

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - A Hastings doorbell camera captured video of a fireball meteor which was also seen in five other states in the middle of the country. The meteor fell from the eastern sky Wednesday at 3:46 a.m. and was captured by a doorbell camera from Kim Shelton who lives just west of Hastings. Hastings College Observatory Program Director Bradley Peterson said the meteor passed into the earth’s atmosphere and started burning up, which made it visible Wednesday morning.

DONIPHAN, Neb. (KSNB) - A black pickup with its lights off parked in the middle of a highway caused a four-vehicle crash in April of 2024, and now the driver has to pay restitution to the owners of the other three cars. Connor Hoffman, 33, stands convicted of four misdemeanor charges including first offense DUI, refusing a breath test, failure to stop at an accident and criminal mischief.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KSNB) - The Nebraska Supreme Court Friday ruled that a Grand Island man will stay in prison for two sexual assault crimes against a minor female. Court records show Nimrod Torres Aquino, 43, was convicted in 2023 of first degree sexual assault on a child and third degree sexual assault on a child. He was accused of assaulting a 15-year-old girl between December 2021 and February 2022. He was sentenced to 45-60 years in prison.
